These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of ChessWisdom (the "Service") operated by ChessWisdom ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

The Service is available to individuals of all ages, but players under 13 may only register with verifiable parental or school consent collected during signup, in accordance with COPPA, PIPL, and GDPR.

If you are a parent or guardian providing consent, you agree to these Terms on behalf of the child and accept responsibility for their use of the Service.

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate information at registration and to keep it updated. You may not share your account or transfer it to another person.

You agree not to:

• Harass, threaten, or impersonate other users, especially in chat, the community feed, or tournaments.

• Cheat, use chess engines or outside assistance during rated games or tournaments, or manipulate ratings.

• Attempt to access data you are not authorized to see, or disrupt the Service's infrastructure.

• Post unlawful, harmful, or infringing content.

• Use bots, scrapers, or automated tools to access the Service beyond its intended use.

We may suspend or terminate access for violations, at our discretion.

Content you create — journal entries, posts, chat messages — remains yours. By posting it on ChessWisdom, you grant us a limited license to display and process it within the Service (for example, to show your journal to your teacher, or generate AI coaching insights).

You are responsible for ensuring your content does not violate law or these Terms. We may remove content we believe is inappropriate or unlawful.

Certain features are available via paid subscriptions (Chess Insight and Chess Mastery), billed through Stripe. Subscription fees are charged on a recurring basis (monthly or yearly) until you cancel. You can cancel anytime; access continues until the end of the current paid period.

Refunds, where applicable, are handled at our discretion and in line with applicable consumer law.

The Service — including its design, chess engine, lesson content, story chapters, artwork, and the ChessWisdom name — is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use it for your own learning and play. You may not copy, redistribute, or resell it without permission.

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that coaching insights are always correct. AI-generated advice is guidance only — you are responsible for your own decisions and play.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ChessWisdom and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, ratings, or subscriptions, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ChessWisdom from claims, damages, or expenses arising from your breach of these Terms or misuse of the Service.

You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or for any business reason (such as discontinuing a feature), with notice where reasonable.

We may revise these Terms as the Service evolves. We will notify users of material changes in-app or by email. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

These Terms are interpreted in good faith. Disputes will be resolved informally where possible, and otherwise in accordance with the laws applicable to your jurisdiction, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
