Privacy PolicyHow ChessWisdom collects, uses & protects your data

Last updated: August 26, 2026

Overview

ChessWisdom ("we", "us") is a chess learning and competition platform built for international school communities. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how it's protected, and the rights you have over it. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to the practices described here.

Information we collect

Account data: name, email, chosen role (user, student, teacher, school admin), age, and age group used to adapt content.

Activity data: games played, moves, results, ELO rating, puzzles solved, streaks, mission progress, journal entries, and achievements.

Education data: classroom membership, assignments, teacher feedback, and class reports — only created when you join a class.

Payment data: when you buy a subscription, payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe handles it.

Usage & device data: browser type, language preference, and anonymous analytics that help us fix bugs and improve the app.

How we use your information

We use your data to run the app: to save your games, track progress, match you with opponents or bots, generate AI coaching insights, and — for students — share progress with your teacher and school.

We do not sell your personal data or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Children's privacy (COPPA / PIPL / GDPR)

Players under 13 may not create an account without verifiable parental or school consent, collected during registration. Parents and guardians can request access, correction, or deletion of a child's data at any time.

Student activity is visible only to the student, their teachers, and their school admin — never to other students or the public.

We comply with China's Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL), the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Data sharing & third parties

We share data only with the services that power the app:

Base44 — our backend platform (database, auth, hosting).

AI providers (OpenAI / Google Gemini) — to generate coaching insights and life lessons. We send only the game context needed; your data is not used to train their public models.

Stripe — subscription payments. See Stripe's privacy policy for how they handle card data.

Google Translate — optional automatic page translation, run invisibly in your browser.

Schools & teachers — a student's classroom data is shared with their enrolled teacher and school admin for educational purposes.

We never share data with advertisers or data brokers.

Cookies & local storage

We use browser local storage to remember your language, theme, and game settings — not to track you across other sites. You can clear this any time in your browser settings.

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion at any time; we remove your records within 30 days, except where a legal obligation requires longer retention.

Your rights

Depending on your region, you can:

• Access and export a copy of your data.

• Correct inaccurate information.

• Delete your account and its data.

• Withdraw consent at any time.

• Object to or restrict certain processing.

To exercise any of these, use the in-app request form (Privacy & Data Protection) or email us directly.

Security

Data is stored on access-controlled, secured infrastructure with row-level security — students see only their own records, teachers see only their classes. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data using industry-standard practices.

International transfers

Because ChessWisdom serves international schools, your data may be processed outside your country of residence. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email; continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
